Organic meat can be pre-ordered from some local health food markets – and also directly from some massachusetts farms.
I also mail-order from blackwing farm in MN- which has a very specific feed profile that includes alfalfa and some other good greens – for its livestock. they also have porterhouse and other hard to find upper level cuts of organic meat. Their cattle are also humanely raised and processed.
American Kobe beef is mail ordered. And can sometimes be ordered locally.
I mostly order grass fed meats.
However, for conventional meats like Angus – which can be a mix of grain and grass fed, I work with a local butcher. Not the supermarket.
*American Kobe beef is available via several ranches in the US. This meat is well marbled, and tends to have higher omega 3 and omega 6 counts than many other domestic beefs. These animals are humanely treated, massaged, and fed an organic diet. They are from the Wagyu cattle, imported from Japan from 1976 to today. They are now raised on US soil; the meat tends to be exceptional in flavor and expensive.
A pount of meat can be $100. However, beef tips and cuts which are rendered after more expensive cuts are less expensive.
